Percy Jackson read-along starts TODAY!

Welcome to the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Read-Along!

I declare this read-along OPEN!!! *fireworks*

Over the next five weeks, I will be reading the Percy Jackson series along with Erika @ Books, Starts, Writing. And everything in between! I’m so excited about starting this!

Here’s a little overview of our weekly schedules in regards to the read-along;

Sunday: Start book
Wednesday: We will post about a chosen myth or legend that has to do both with the current book and with Greek mythology.
Friday: Review (I solemnly swear to do my best to publish them on Fridays!)
Saturday: Discussions surrounding various topics.

Of course, feel free to message us or comment at any time to let us know where you are, what you’re thinking, etc! :D

No worries if you’ve already read them, or if you are joining late :)

Today, we will be starting  Book 1: The Lightening Thief!

Here’s the Goodreads blurb:
"Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he can't seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper. And lately, being away at boarding school is only getting worse—Percy could have sworn his pre-algebra teacher turned into a monster and tried to kill him. When Percy's mom finds out, she knows it's time that he knew the truth about where he came from, and that he go to the one place he'll be safe. She sends Percy to Camp Half Blood, a summer camp for demigods (on Long Island), where he learns that the father he never knew is Poseidon, God of the Sea. Soon a mystery unfolds and together with his friends—one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena—Percy sets out on a quest across the United States to reach the gates of the Underworld (located in a recording studio in Hollywood) and prevent a catastrophic war between the gods.

We will also be introducing ourselves through our official half-blood profiles.

Name: Caroline Willows
Age: 19
Godly Parent: Poseidon
Cabin: 3, obviously
Weapons: A bow given to me by Apollo as a gift for helping in the Battle for Manhattan. I have two quivers: one of standard arrows, and another filled with arrows with different properties. It’s a yew recurve bow that can be collapsed into a bracelet if needed. I don’t really like doing that, though, so I usually keep it open.
Powers: Water control
Quests completed: Well, even though Mr. Riordan completely pretended I didn’t exist during the last 3 books, I did help out in the Battle of Manhattan. I also helped free a group of minor gods from Ares. I still don’t get what he wanted with them. I participated in a few smaller quests as well. Man can they be exhausting. You have no IDEA what happened in some of them!
Fatal Flaw: Much like my brother, I can be too loyal I know it’s not a really bad flaw, but I was close to dying when I protected my friend from being hit with some giant scorpion venom. It’s happened a few times, where I was too loyal for my own good, and it’s not something I particularly like talking about.
Favorite Camp activities: Capture the Flag, Archery, and practicing water control with my brother. Oh and the campfires, those are great!
Drink of choice: Mountain Dew. No colors, no weird flavors. Just Mountain Dew. Or when it’s cold I will enjoy a extra-creamy-dark-hot-chocolate-with-marshmellows (and blue sprinkles). Or apple-caramel tea.
Other: Percy is my older brother, and, since he was the first new son of our dad, of COURSE he gets his own book series and all that jazz. I’m four years younger than him. But don’t think that I’m jealous, because I’m not. I wouldn’t know what to do with being known. I’m happy for him. We are incredibly close. It’s just the two of us in the cabin, as it has been for years.
I don’t have any means with horses. I don’t know why. BUT I can take water from the environment, like from the air or ground, which Percy can’t do. (yet)
I have apollo’s blessing since helping his cabin from a certain fiery destruction. Don’t worry, though, I don’t randomly burst out into poetry.
I’m not dyslexic for some reason! I can read and write perfectly! It’s so strange!

Feel free to post your own character profiles! :D
Also, please comment if you want to join! :)

  3. Niceee!! I am so joining this re-read to post things about the series!! I love Percy Jackson so much but I sadly read the last book a couple monthes ago :'( But we fans should just think of this as another chapter in his stories since Rick will surely *i hope* put some pj characters into his new series as cameos! & Hmm I guess i would either be a child of Artemis or Poseidon if I had a pick. Thanks for doing this re-read! x)
