Hey all!
To start off with, I gotta say I just finished watching The Fault in our Stars, so sorry if I get really emotional in this review. =p
Secondly, for the next week, I'll be counseling at a camp that has no WiFi, so if I don't reply to anything until next Saturday, you know why!
Now for Nimona!
Nimona is a graphic novel that is basically written from the point of view of the villain. I downloaded this graphic novel after seeing JesseTheReader's review of it on booktube. Wanting to read a graphic novel, I just thought, why not? And read it almost in one sitting.
Nimona is about a young girl called, well, Nimona, who can shapeshift at will, into basically anything. I mean this girl is awesome! She becomes the sidekick of Ballister Blackheart, someone who has the reputation of being a supervision. His arch-nemesis? Sir Goldenlion, the town's favorite. At first, Nimona is a bit of a free electron, doing what she wants instead of following Blackheart's plans, transforming into some crazy things to get the deeds done.
But, it turns out that Lord Blackheart is only a villain towards the institution of law enforcement, and does his villainous acts to get the people of the town to realise that the ILE isn't as great as they seem...
This graph is novel was REALLY COOL!! It is set in some time that mixes medieval culture with futuristic science and magic, giving a kinda strange but overall really cool setting. Nimona turned into basically everything! I also really liked.all of the back-stories of the characters. Also, some ideas that blend science and magic are just genius!!
Nimona is really smart and has a great sense of humor. Blackheart and Goldenlion are both excellent characters as well, really contributing to the novel in a great way. I don't want to give too much away, but Noelle made her characters with a LOT of layers that add complexity to otherwise stereotypical characters.
This graphic novel was drawn simply but effectively, helping put the focus more on the story line. The story is a real ride of emotions, from hilarious to sweet to sad, etc...
Overall, great read, and a great introduction to the graphic novel world! I would definitely check it out :)
4/5 stars on goodreads :)
Great review! This graphic novel sounds amazing and I have had it in my Amazon cart for a while now. I think the fact that its about the Villain's assistant is want intrigues me the most.
