Blog Changes

Hey everyone!
So you probably noticed that I’ve been playing around with the settings used on Blogger. For a while I had the most basic of their backgrounds and layouts, with a simple font and just a few gadgets. Now, I changed the template, added buttons for my favorite series and my teams, changed the main font, and added my own rating system.
I’m doing all of this to make this blog more ‘mine’, you know?

I would really Really REALLY appreciate it if you guys let me know what you think about the new layout? Is the new background too much? Is the font currently used hard to read? Is it incoherent for some reason? Or is it just fine?

I can always revert to the original, and I won’t mind! I was just curious about how different styles would work :) Who knows maybe I’ll change it again in a month =p

Any feedback would be AMAZING!!!

Have a nice day C:

Top Ten Tuesday - Unfinished Series

Top Ten Series I have yet to finish...

Hey all!
Welcome to a new TTT! This is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, make sure to check out their blog!

Now I’m one of those people who will almost always finish a series I started, unless I really get uninterested. I might not get 10 into this weeks list, but I’ll see what I can do!!

(Also, I’m really ashamed of some of these, some of these have a reason, and some of these I just DNFed for no reason whatsoever x) )

1. The Heroes Of Olympus, by Rick Riordan *hides*
What I’ve read: Books 1-4 out of 5
Why I didn’t finish: I can’t find book 5 here anymore, and I never got around to ordering it on amazon... I’m most ashamed of this one to be honest...

2. The Fire Within, by Chris D’lacey
What I’ve read: Books 1-5 out of y
Why I didn’t finish: Okay for some reason book 6 is the only one taking you in a totally different world where the main plot isn’t even relevant! That bugged me after the first three chapters, so I gave up.

3. The Infernal Devices, by Cassandra Clare
What I’ve read: Book 1 out of 3
Why I didn’t finish: I still need to buy the next two =p

4. Wondrous Strange, by Kelly Livingston
What I’ve read: Books 1-2 out of 3
Why I didn’t finish: I never got the 3rd one, and now I think I might not get it unless I really want to for some reason.

5. Inkheart, by Cornelia Funke
What I’ve read:Book 1 out of 3
Why I didn’t finish: Meh I was done with the story after the 1st book

6. The Maze Runner, by James Dashner
What I’ve read:Book 1 out of (soon to be) 6
Why I didn’t finish:I actually really liked the story! Its just that getting the sequel never seemed like much of a priority for me for some reason...? I dunno I just never got to it and I don’t really mind for some reason.

7. Angel Burn, by Lee Weatherly
What I’ve read:Books 1-2 out of 3
Why I didn’t finish:I didn’t know there was going to be a 3rd book! That and I lost interest halfway through the second book because it was increasingly repetitive.

8. Twilight, by Sephanie Meyer
What I’ve read: Books 1-1.5 out of 4
Why I didn’t finish: Yeaaaah I just didn’t like it at all, gave up halfway through book 2.

9. The Lorien Legacies, by Pittacus Lore
What I’ve read: Book 1 out of 6
Why I didn’t finish:I didn’t really like the first book much. Plus, it’s been a long time since I’ve read it, maybe I should try it again?

10. The Chronicles of Narnia, by C. S. Lewis
What I’ve read: Books 1-2 out of 7
Why I didn’t finish: I never got to the next ones due to the excitement of reading a new release, lol XD

Oh wow I actually got 10! Well, some of these are definitely stretching it a bit, though...

What series did you never get to finish? Let me know in the comments! :D
I <3 comments, they make me happy ^-^

The Secret Fire, by C.J. Daugherty

The Secret Fire, by C.J. Daugherty and Carina Rozenfeld

Hey everyone! I just finished The Secret Fire!

I received this book as an eARC from the publishers through NetGalley. This does not affect my review.

The Secret Fire is about two teenagers - Sacha, a Parisian boy who cannot die until the day he turns 18, and Taylor, a nerdy british girl who discovers that she is an Alchemist, someone who can control molecules and bend them into what she wants (electricity into fire, water into air, etc...) Their teachers make them meet online through the excuse of tutoring. It turns out that Taylor is the only person in the world who can save Sacha’s life. However, they have never met, and they only have 8 weeks to change Sacha’s fate for the sake of humanity.

I love this book! It was really great! I’ve always loved books that include Alchemy as its major fantasy core, I just think that it’s such a fascinating ‘science’!

I read the first chapter, and I was completely swept into this amazing world! It started off with Sacha ‘dying’, and coming back to life, but through a super tense situation that had me think that this person was going to die 10 pages into the book. When he came back to life, I thought that this unique character peculiarity was so great! Sacha is a real daredevil, but with a purpose of making money for his poor family. I loved his character. He’s very sarcastic and daring, and a bit immature at times, but will always stand up for those he loves.

Taylor is also a really nice character, (although I did like Sacha better :) ) She grows a lot throughout the book, giving her more and more personality as the story progressed. She is a bit of a typical YA book girl though, but her abilities pull her away from that typicallness, which worked very well in the end.

Their relationship is sweet! Although it is strange that they basically fall in love like that *snaps fingers*, they are really protective about each other, which I found to be really cute :)

The bad guys were great! The “Bringers” are basically 3 guys who are meant to bring Sacha to his fate. They were everything that baddies need to be - creepy, dark, mysterious, and just plain bad. Awesome!

The only thing that disappointed me was the ending. I went like this:

It had such an open end! I want to know what happened next!

Overall, can’t wait until the second book comes out, and to continue exploring this amazing story!

Have you read ’The Secret Fire’ yet?

National Read-A-Book day! Facts & Tag

Current read, Reader’s Problem Tag, and Fun Facts!

Hey all!
Happy National Read A Book day! :D

Here’s some facts about reading I found to commemorate this (unofficial) holiday!

1. Reading can help prevent Alzheimer’s

2. Being a reader means that you are more likely to learn something new every day
3. People who read more are more likely to vote, exercise, and be more cultural
4. Reading can be therapeutic
5. Reading enhances your memory
6. Fiction books increase your ability to empathize with others (so many character deaths, *cries*)
7. People in Iceland read more books per capita than any other country
8. Reading about yawning makes you yawn
10. Most readers loose interest on page 18
11. Harry Potter is the most banned book across America
12. During traditional reading, 1/6th of your time is lost due to eye movement

I”m also doing the “Reader’s Problems Tag!”

1. You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next?
Like with my current TBR, I’d just go with what I feel like reading at the moment =p

2. You’re halfway through a book and you’re not loving it. Do you quit or do you commit?
Commit, it might get better by the end :)

3. The end of the year is coming and you’re so close, but so far away from finishing your goodreads reading challenge! Do you try to catch up, and how?
Nah, I don’t try to catch up. Usually end of the year = exam time. Catching up would be a bit crazy then.

4. The covers of a series you love do not match. How do you cope?
I cringe, but go with it. That’s actually the case with a lot of series I have (or the first book is in French, or i’ll randomly have one hardcover out of the entire paperback series, or there’s different publishers...)

5. Everyone loves a book that you don’t really like. Who do you bond with over shared feelings?
Well, I’ll usually at least find ONE other person out there who has the same opinion as me. Either that or one of my friends who doesn’t read much =p

6. You’re reading a book and you’re about to start crying in public. How do you deal?
You mean when I’m on the bus or at uni? Emmm... either I close the book and finish it at home and cry in my room, or I just deal with it and feel strange but it’s worth finishing the book in the end.

7. A sequel to a book you loved just came out, but you’ve forgotten a lot from the prior novel. Will you re-read the book? Skip the sequel? Try to find a synopsis on Goodreads? Cry in frustration?
Re-read! Just like before seeing a book-to-movie adaptation, I’ll always re-read the book before seeing the movie (I’m talking to you, Hunger Games! Can’t wait!!)

8. You do not want anyone - ANYONE - borrowing your books (I actually don’t mind, borrow away -p ) How politely do you say no when they ask?)
I usually don’t say no, but if I had to say no, I’d say that I’m sorry but I’ve had some bad experience with letting people borrow books before.

9. Reading ADD. You’ve picked up and put down 5 books over the last month. What do you do to get out of your reading slump?
Read one of my favorites :) It works 100% of the time!

10. There are so many new books coming out that you’re dying to read! How many do you actually buy?
As many as I can find where I live, which is not that much. For the rest I hope I get them for my birthday/christmas, or order them on amazon when I feel like I really can’t wait! (Illuminae Files and The Rest of us Just Live Here, I’m coming for you!)

11. After you’ve bought the new books you can’t wait to get to, how long do they sit on your bookshelf before you get to them?
That realllllllly depends. For example I’ve been dying to read Angelfall and Saint Anything, but I have a few ARCs to read asap for review... Other times, I just finish my current read and pick those ones up next!

And to finish off, here’s my current read!

The Secret Fire, by C.J. Daughterty

I’m just over halfway with this eARC that I recieved through NetGalley from the publisher, and I’ve been loving it! Awesome story!! Super unique!

Let me know what book you are reading today! What did you think of the tag?

Have a great reading day! :)

New Rick Riordan Series? Sign me up!!

Mangus Chase and the Gods of Asgard

This is not a book review. I repeat, this is not a book review!
I just have a few thought floating around in my head right now that I want to talk to you guys about. (btw this whole post might be really incoherent so just bear with me XD )
So I was goodreads-surfing when I noticed that what I thought was going to be a new short story by Rick Riordan about the Norse gods was actually going to be a whole book with a whole series. I sorta went like this

Rick Riordan is one of my all-time favorite authors. He wrote the books that got me so into reading YA/middle grade, mythology (especially greek), and basically sent me in a spiral of imagination for YEARS! Thank you so much uncle Rick, you are legend! Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a series I will read over and over again with no problems about it whatsoever :)

Also, just look at this cover! *-*
I only have one concern - aside from not having read the Blood of Olympus yet (oh my gosh so much shame on me I can't believe it!), making me wanting to wait until I read his next book, I'm just kind of worried about something - that the two worlds will be way too similar and will overlap strangely. Now I have nothing against there being PJ references in MC, but I'm more worried about the aspect of 'gods having more than one side'. What I mean is that in The Heroes of Olympus, the gods are presented as having a greek side and a roman side, each distinct yet attributed to the same 'person'. I'm worried about a third layer being added. So now Poseidon would be Poseidon, Neptune, and AEgir? I hope not... /:

Also, for some reason, I feel like I should be more excited about this book than I am right now. Each time a new PJ-related book came out I was ECSTATIC! (Even though I haven't read blood of olympus yet... :[ ) And now I'm really happy, but I feel that this whole new series might be too much like the ones presented in PJ&tO and HoO, especially after reading the synopsis. I personally really liked what he did with Egyptian mythology in the Kane Chronicles, that was really cool! (Hmm I'll have to read those again one of these days...) I guess I just don't want Magnus Chase to be too similar to Percy Jackson? I dunno.

What I REALLY like is how Rick is putting so many mythologies in the spotlight through a really fun and creative way! It's AWESOME that he's going with the Norse gods now, and I can't wait to get to it! I really don't know much about Norse mythology, so it'll be a good chance to get to it!

SO EXCITEDDD!!!

My hopes are high for this book, my friends!

This book comes out in October 2015 (seriously why are all the great books coming out one month AFTER my b-day?!)

Hey guys! If any one of you bloggers would like to do a Percy Jackson read-along thing with me before 2016, let me know! :D

Also, what do you think about the subject?

Crown of Midnight, by Sarah J. Maas

Crown of Midnight, by Sarah J. Maas

JLFADKS;F LDSKAFJSDLKF JADLS;F  I just finished reading oh my gosh what no?!

...
Ahem...
Hey all!

I just finished reading Crown of Midnight, the second Throne of Glass book by Sarah J. Maas. Sorry for that first sentence, my thoughts are all over the place.

Crown of Midnight is the continuation of Celaena's story. She is now the king's 'Champion', or assassin, sent off to kill various people the king thinks are traitors. However, instead of killing these people, she lets them go, lying to the king. Then, the king asks her to kill someone she considers to be a friend. She gives him a choice - be killed or flee. In the meantime, ancient spells, magic, and love come together as a side story, making Celaena's life more and more complicated for her...

The book is beautifully paced, giving tiny hints along the way and then revealing everything like an explosion at the end! Celaena is an AMAZING character!! She goes from being super sweet and girly to being a crazy assassin kicking people/witch's/monsters butt! All for the right reasons, though ^-^

Major events are not predictable AT ALL, in my opinion! The story is so skillfully written and put together that every twist and turn of events is an amazing surprise!

OH. MY. GOSH. WHAT. WAS. THAT. ENDING!? (I literally continued reading as if I was about to read the next chapter and saw "Acknowledgements"... The struggle though!)
(okay I won't tell you what that ending was right away - if you already read the books, scroll down to the purple text! :D)

Okay I've said it and I'll say it again, if you haven't picked up this series yet, do so! Its such a great new high fantasy story, without being too crazy with the creatures! I love how much magic was actually in this. The book is perfectly balanced between magic, fighting, love, conflict, monsters, people, royalty and fae.

And now for the spoilery part :)
I love Chaol, but I'm still team Dorian. BUT everyone seems to be freaking out over another character (Rowan?) so I can't wait to meet this new guy! ;)

THE ENDING MESSED ME UP! Like oh my gosh Nehemia's death was awful, and then the Golllum-like creature, and the portals and Archer's death and she's a fairy princess? (okay that made no sense but you know what I mean if you read it!!)  I really liked the fact that she actually knew about it, but didn't even show that she knew it until it was revealed at the end! You couldn't even guess that she was anything other than an assassin!

Guys I keep seeing Fleetfoot as a poodle or some other kind of tiny white dog even though that's not it AT ALL...

I can't wait until I get the next two books, it's probably going to be AMAZING!!!

I'm giving this book a wonderful 5 feathers! C:

What team are you on? What did you think of Crown of Midnight, and of Throne of Glass in general? How mind-blown were you by the end? :D
