Hey all!
I just finished reading Soundless, by Richelle Mead! :)
Goodreads Blurb:
"From Richelle Mead, the #1 internationally bestselling author of Vampire Academy and Bloodlines, comes a breathtaking new fantasy steeped in Chinese folklore.
For as long as Fei can remember, there has been no sound in her village, where rocky terrain and frequent avalanches prevent residents from self-sustaining. Fei and her people are at the mercy of a zipline that carries food up the treacherous cliffs from Beiguo, a mysterious faraway kingdom.
When villagers begin to lose their sight, deliveries from the zipline shrink and many go hungry. Fei’s home, the people she loves, and her entire existence is plunged into crisis, under threat of darkness and starvation.
But soon Fei is awoken in the night by a searing noise, and sound becomes her weapon.
Richelle Mead takes readers on a triumphant journey from the peak of Fei’s jagged mountain village to the valley of Beiugo, where a startling truth and an unlikely romance will change her life forever...”
This book was nice!
...
Wow that sounds so boring, but don’t judge, I’m sleepy =p
I really enjoyed reading Soundless! To be honest, I started this without any expectations, but ended up being pleasantly surprised!
So I don’t know much about Chinese folklore and mythology! This wasn’t huge on it, but it still created a nice atmosphere for the book.
What I really found intriguing about this book was the fact that nothing was described with sound! Rocks wouldn’t crash down, birds wouldn’t sing... and when Fei can hear, she describes the sound in such detail, it really makes you think how lucky we are to have sound everyday! It was really peculiar to read something with no sound. It’s not something I noticed at first, but then I read something with sound-words, and I was surprised by it! So strange! XD
The main character, Fei, was a really strong character, ready to do what was right. Li Wei was also cool :) However, I feel like they were a bit predictable, especially as far as their relationship went. It was sweet, but I really saw it coming.
Another thing I loved about this book is that it felt like a fairy tale! I love fairytales, and this honestly was like reading about the Legend of Fei, the girl who could suddenly hear, and, with her friend, travelled to help her village. It was nice! :)
Anyway I’m going to cut off my review here, sorry it’s pretty short! But I hope it gave you a good idea of what I thought! :)
I’m giving this a little 4/5 feathers :)
