USA MASSIVE BOOK HAUL!!!!

USA MASSIVE BOOK HAUL!!!!

Hey all!

So as some of you may know I've been in the US for the past six weeks, visiting family and working at an AWESOME camp!
One of the main differences between the US and here in Europe is that here, we don't have a lot of second hand book stores. So when I was in the states, I kinda went crazy, and just kept getting books. Sadly though I mostly got first books in series, in case I wasn't a fan of the series. Now I realize that I probably should have grabbed the next books of, for example, the Iron Fey series.... Oh well! So here are all 19 books I got while I was on vacation! :D

 The Martian, by Andy Weir

This has been on my TBR basically since its' been published. It's basically about this guy who gets abandoned on Mars, because his co-space-explorers think he died in a storm.

I love sci fi, and I can't wait to read this before I see the movie!!

Witch & Wizard, by James Patterson

I love James Patterson's fantasy writing! I've heard so many amazing things about this series, that I decided to give the first book a try!

Crown of Midnight, by Sarah J. Maas

YESSSS I have the second book! I already started it in the plane, review to come soon :)

This is the second book in the Throne of Glass series. You can find my review for Throne of Glass in an older post!

Witch Dreams, by Vivian Vande Velde (such a Dutch name o_o)

I started this in the car a few days ago, then DNFed it /: might get back to it later, though.

This short book is about a girl who can see other people's dreams just by holding on to something of theirs. She is trying to figure out who killed her parents.

I don't even know why I DNFed it to be honest o-o

Mind Games, by Kiersten White

I got this at the dollar store, and what I got from it is that there are two sisters, one of which is blind but can see different versions of the future. The second sister has perfect instincts.

This actually sounds really cool and I can't wait to get to it! :D

Invisibility, by Andrea Cremer and David Levithan

I have no idea what to expect with this book, to be honest. All I know is that it's about a boy who is cursed with invisibility, and a girl who is gifted with a sight which helps her see said invisible people.

I dunno, it sounds cool :')

Let's Get Lost, by Adi Alsaid

Okay so you guys know about my love for Paper Towns, right? Apparently this book has the same road-trip idea but taken in a different direction!

Aka, I'm SUPER excited to read this! :D

Hush, Hush, by Becca Fitzpatrick

I've been seeing Hush Hush EVERYWHERE!!!  So when I saw it again at a second hand book store, I caved in and bought it. I really hope its as great as it sounds!

I know this book about fallen angels (I think) is getting highly mixed reviews. Like I saw that it was comparable to Twilight, which I didn't like much, but I also saw that it was completely amazing and unique....

I GUESS WE'LL FIGURE OUT LATER, SHALL WE?

One Thousand Paper Cranes, by Takayuki Ishii

The reason I got this book is because we did a project based on this Japanese story back in high school, and I've always wanted to read the book.

If I remember it correctly, this is about a girl who is very sick, and has a goal of making 1000 paper cranes. Her determination with this made her very well known in Japan, and there are now monuments to this girl in the country.

Can't wait to read the story for myself! :D

Seraphina, by Rachel Hartman
Dragons and medieval society and sci-fi? Sign. Me. Up! One of my bookish friends told me that I really have to get to this, and I mean it looks amazing!

Plus the cover is really shiny. Its a minor thing but still looks cool on my shelf ^-^

This is one of those books I've heard so much about that I just had to pick it up, you know what I mean?

Saint Anything, by Sarah Dessen (SIGNED COPY!)
Okay so no I did not have the chance to meet Sarah Dessen, but one of the bookstores I went to had a small pile of signed copies, and I'm so glad I got one!! *-*

I'm really looking forward to reading this book! I haven't read one of her books in a long time, so yeah =p

Can't wait to get to this one!

Across the Universe, by Beth Revis

Another one of those series that I've heard SO MUCH about but that I never got to! Now I have the first book, and, hopefully, I'll love it as much as everyone else! :D

This one is basically sci-fi about a bunch of people who wake up from being frozen asleep for years. However, there are people on the ship who have taken over for the worse.

The Iron King, by Julie Kagawa

Make sure to check out my review for this book! :D Now I just need to find the next ones somewhere!

Wicked Lovely, by Melissa Maar

As above, make sure to check out my review for this! :D

Eon, by Alison Goodman

Again, make sure to check out my review for Eon! :)

Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them, by J. K. Rowling

Again, make sure to check out my review for this!! Really recent and really great!

Down the Rabbit Hole, by Peter Abrahams (no image)
Basically a mystery re-telling of Alice in Wonderland, that looks like a fun read! :D

Eyes in Space; Spacecraft Views of the Universe, by Robert E. Mueller
Just a book about the evolution of how people looked at space so it looked cool :')

The Junior Classics 3; Myths and Legends
Very pretty older looking book full of myths and legends, which is something I really love! It can be a fun read!

So that's it! Let me know if you have read any of these and what you thought of them! :D

Tomorrow I will be designing the top 3 rating systems, and we'll have a 3 day long voting session!

Fantastic Beasts & where to Find Them, by Newt Scamander

Fantastic Beasts & where to Find Them, by Newt Scamander

Hey all!
As some of you may know, I absolutely love the Harry Potter series! I'm always looking for related items, books, etc... #ravenclawpride! (Really difficult to find in Europe though... :/) So, while I'm waiting for what feels like years at the airport, I'm writing a review of this published version of one of Harry's textbooks :)

This (text)book was such a cute read! It combined both mythical creatures from world mythologies and Harry Potter books, as well as creatures that seem made up by J.K. Rowling herself! (I noticed that nargles were never mentioned though... hmm...)

The way that the creatures were explained was amazing! Some of the descriptions had me in total awe, while others just made me laugh way out loud! Check this quote;

" Mooncalf- (...) preform complicated dances on their hind legs in isolated areas in the moonlight. These are believed to be a prelude to mating (and often leave intricate geometric patterns behind in wheat fields, to the great puzzlement of Muggles)"

I mean how great is that!? A lot of the entries in the book use these fantastic beasts to explain strange phenomena, in both incredibly clever and often funny ways. Other things I found interesting was how each beast is classified, sorted, and compared to others, as well as how each one can be used for spells or potions!

One of my favorite aspects of this book was Harry and Ron's notes in the margins of their textbook! They were perfect.

If you ever want to know more about the wizarding world, make sure to pick this up! It's a great addition to any Harry Potter book collection :)

If you could read any of the many textbooks from the HP series, which would it be? Let me know! :D

I'm giving this a 4/5 stars :)

Have an amazing day!

Nimona, by Noelle Stevenson

Nimona, by Noelle Stevenson

Hey all!
To start off with, I gotta say I just finished watching The Fault in our Stars, so sorry if I get really emotional in this review. =p
Secondly, for the next week, I'll be counseling at a camp that has no WiFi, so if I don't reply to anything until next Saturday, you know why!

Now for Nimona!

Nimona is a graphic novel that is basically written from the point of view of the villain. I downloaded this graphic novel after seeing JesseTheReader's review of it on booktube. Wanting to read a graphic novel, I just thought, why not? And read it almost in one sitting.

Nimona is about a young girl called, well, Nimona, who can shapeshift at will, into basically anything. I mean this girl is awesome! She becomes the sidekick of Ballister Blackheart, someone who has the reputation of being a supervision. His arch-nemesis? Sir Goldenlion, the town's favorite. At first, Nimona is a bit of a free electron, doing what she wants instead of following Blackheart's plans, transforming into some crazy things to get the deeds done.

But, it turns out that Lord Blackheart is only a villain towards the institution of law enforcement, and does his villainous acts to get the people of the town to realise that the ILE isn't as great as they seem...

This graph is novel was REALLY COOL!! It is set in some time that mixes medieval culture with futuristic science and magic, giving a kinda strange but overall really cool setting. Nimona turned into basically everything! I also really liked.all of the back-stories of the characters. Also, some ideas that blend science and magic are just genius!!

Nimona is really smart and has a great sense of humor. Blackheart and Goldenlion are both excellent characters as well, really contributing to the novel in a great way. I don't want to give too much away, but Noelle made her characters with a LOT of layers that add complexity to otherwise stereotypical characters.

This graphic novel was drawn simply but effectively, helping put the focus more on the story line. The story is a real ride of emotions, from hilarious to sweet to sad, etc...

Overall, great read, and a great introduction to the graphic novel world! I would definitely check it out :)

4/5 stars on goodreads :)

Question: if you could have any three wishes granted, what would they be?

After thinking about this for quite some time, I came up with these three;

1. To find a sustainable solution to both the world's' energy and global warming problems, that nations will agree on and that can be adopted right away.

2. To go to an ARC library =p

3. Overall genie freedom =p

What are wishes that you would ask a genie to grant?

Also, make sure to vote.on the poll on the right!

90's movie book tag!

90's movie book tag!
Hey everyone!
An amazing blogger that I know, Kayleigh @ A Book Lover's Playlist created this tag and tagged me to do it! Thanks so much! Make sure to check put her blog, it's really wonderful :D

1. She's All That - Name a book couple that are an odd pairing, but they still fit together perfectly.
For this I want to say Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games. Katniss is very stubborn, he hunts, and is the aggressive one.
Peeta is pretty much the polar opposite of this  he bakes and paints and is sweet and compassionate. Two very different people who ended up perfect together :)

2. 10 Things I Hate About You - a book or series that you have a love/hate relationship with.
So far, I'm having that with Eon - half the time I love what I'm reading, and the other half I wanted to just put the book back on the shelf. I guess I'll see how.the second one is!

3. Clueless - A character that is totally clueless, but you love them anyway.
I totally agree that Simon, from The Mortal Instruments, is an absolutely awesome character, but is really clueless about basically everything. He really needs to read the Codex =p

4. Titanic - A book that made you cry.
Again, I'm having the same answer as Kayleigh, and I'm saying The Fault in our Stars, by John Green. It's the last book during which I really cried, and is also the most memorable.

5. American Pie - A Book that made you laugh.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians always makes me laugh a lot :)

6. Can't Hardly Wait - a book with a crazy party.
I was just thinking of writing that I never really read books with parties in them (that I haven't mentioned yet) when I remembered that there was a pretty crazy  party in Avalon High! The memory of it really came out of nowhere xD
7. Cruel Intentions - name a character you can never fully trust.
For some reason I feel like I can never trust Dylan from Maximum Ride. It's been a while since I've read the books and I can't really remember if he ends up being good or not :')
8. Name your favorite 'boy next door' or 'girl next door' couple.
Another question, another John Green book! These characters are Paper Towns's Margo and Quentin. <3

9. Scream - a book with a memorable villain.
Okay, I honestly can't think of ANY villain more memorable than Lord Voldemort, from Harry Potter. He's maybe not the baddest villain, but he's still the most well known! And he's a great villain. So yeah =p

10. The Craft - a book with witches.
Stardust, by Niel Gaiman, has 3 bad but crazy witches!

Would You Rather...? - Book Edition!

Would You Rather...?

Wow I've been posting a lot lately!
I've been tagged by Aga from Books For the Mind to do this tag! Thanks so much! Make sure to check out her blog, it's great! :D
Ooh I just had a look at the questions they look really tough! 0_0
Well, here it goes!

WOULD YOU RATHER...

1. ... only read trilogies, or only read stand-alone books?
Hmm... if 'trilogies' includes any length of series then I'd go with trilogies. But if it strictly means a series with 3 books in it, I'd go with stand-alones. This is because stand alones can give the satisfaction of finishing a story, rather than waiting what will happen. Also, a lot of my favorite books are, or can be read as, stand alones

2. ... read only male or female authors?
This question is really hard, because I never really pay a lot of attention to the author when I pick out what I read. My favorite authors are a pretty much perfectly even mix of male and female authors. I might say female authors, just because I've been reading a lot of books by female authors lately, but this is completely random. However, I would then be loosing the ability to read the books of a lot of amazing male authors :/ mehhhhh NEXT!

3. ... shop at Barnes and Noble or Amazon?
BARNES AND NOBLE HOW IS THIS EVEN A QUESTION!!? Amazon is taking over the job of being a bookstore and its NOT COOL! So many B&N's are closing because everyone is getting books off Amazon. Sure I get some from Amazon, but I would always go to B&N if I could

4. ... if books were made into TV shows or movies?
Oh gosh... it really depends on the book! I mean, I can't see The Hunger Games as a TV series, but making The Mortal Instruments into a series is SUCH  a good idea! I think movies would work for most books, but some are just better in series.

5. ... only read 5 pages per day, or 5 books a week?
To be honest, none of these sound nice or possible. Let me explain. Five pages a day would be so hard, because you always want to know what happens next! What if the last page ends on a confession? Or a question? Or an explosion? Waiting a whole day to know what would happen would be awful! Plus, with a 300 page book, it'd take almost 3 months to read one book! I guess one advantage would be that you get the most out of the entire book...
Then, for 5 books a week: you have to zip through them so quickly, all the stories would be blurry and you'd just get the main outline out of it! Also, if I had to read 5 books a week, my grades would fall so quickly, because homework and readings (for classes) and writing essays already takes most of my time! One advantage for this would be that you could catch up on your tbr pile super quickly, I guess...
I'm not answering this one. I know it's against the rules but they are both evenly bad.

6. ... be a professional author or reviewer?
A reviewer. This one is easy. I'm not a great writer, so yeah =p plus I love reviewing!!

7. ... be a librarian or a bookseller?
Um probably a bookseller, as you can get a look at all the new releases right away ^-^

8. ... read only your favorite genre, or read every other genre except for your favorite?
Only my favorite genre. For now, YA is considered to be a genre, and it's so broad that I don't think I would mind. Even if we consider my favorite genre genre, fantasy, there is so much covered in it, that I really wouldn't mind :')

9. ... only read e-books or physical books?
Physical books will always rule the book kingdom in my world!

So there's my tag! If you have done this at any time, put the link in the comments and I'll check yours! :D
If you haven't done it, pikachu, I tag you! (Lol I tried)

Have an amazing day! :)
