Traveling Book Idea!

Hey all!
I was recently watching youtube and +Flipping Through Pages gave me the idea to start a sort of event with you guys!

Basically, the idea that I have is to start a traveling book chain!

Don't know what that is? It's quite simple!

We will choose a book that would make a good traveling book. For example, I'll be the first to read said book. I can take notes in it, highlight it, leave post-its, etc. Then I review it/Instagram it, then send it on to the next person. Then they do something similar until the book goes full circle then comes back to me!

What I'm hoping to do is to get a list of a bunch of people who might be interested in doing something like this, then get everyone's address (by country), then we can have some sort of minimum shipping cost order we can work out! :)

I think this can be such a fun idea, personally! It can make for a cool reading experience!

Please please please let me know below, or send me an email at justanotherbookishblog@gmail.com if you are interested!

I'm posting this on Instagram too, so hopefully we'll get a nice network of people who would be interested!

Just a quick note, if you are interested and added to the list, please read the book as soon as possible, and send it to the next person as soon as you finish it! This will make everything much easier

If you have any book suggestions you can include them in your comment/email! It would be super appreciated! Just make sure it's not too heavy, I don't think people want to pay a fortune to send it on every time!

Anyway, have a great day! :D

Before Tomorrow, by Pintip Dunn

Hey all!
I just finished the novella Before Tomorrow, by Pintip Dunn!

Pintip was kind enough to send me a PDF copy for review! Thank you so much! I have reviews for Forget Tomorrow and Remember Yesterday if you click on those names. They both directly relate to the novella, so it might help a bit if you read those first.

Guys, I honestly recommend these books. Not only are the covers gorgeous, but the story is a super creative dystopian novel, with awesome characters and that can really make you feel a bunch of emotions. They're everywhere from amazon to book depository. Seriously underhyped, and seriously recommended!

This does not affect my review of this novella!

"In a world where all seventeen-year-olds receive a memory from their future selves, Logan Russell's vision is exactly as he expects—and exactly not. He sees himself achieving his greatest wish of becoming a gold-star swimmer, but strangely enough, the vision also shows him locking eyes with a girl from his past, Callie Stone, and experiencing an overwhelming sense of love and belonging.

Logan’s not sure what the memory means, but soon enough, he learns that his old friend Callie is in trouble. She’s received an atypical memory, one where she commits a crime in the future. According to the law, she must be imprisoned, even though she's done nothing wrong. Now, Logan must decide if he'll give up his future as a gold-star swimmer and rescue the literal girl of his dreams. All he'll have to do is defy Fate."

This was a nice addition to the Forget Tomorrow series! This book is set in parallel to Forget Tomorrow, but was set in Logan's point of view. If you read my first reviews, you probably realized, Logan is one of my favorite characters in the series. He feels genuine and honest!  honest. I think that he is one of the characters that really deserved a side story :)

This novella was sweet! It follows Logan after he gets his future memory, and him dealing with emotions, especially what he feels about seeing Callie in his future memory. (I still ship them so much, ahahah!). He gets a lot of congratulations from friends and family. Basically this is the first half of Forget Tomorrow from Logan's point of view.

The only semi-problem I have with this novella is actually not that much of a problem at all! I just wish it was longer and a bit more detailed! I want to read more of it, and see more of what Logan thinks and feels and what he does when he isn't mentioned in BOT Forget Tomorrow and Remember Yesterday! I mean yeah that would be a lot of work, but it would be so nice to read!

Overall I'm giving this novella a 3.5/5! I really liked reading it, just wished it was longer!

Have you read the Forget Tomorrow series? What did you think about it? Let me know! :D

A Torch Against the Night, by Sabaa Tahir

Hey all!
I just finished reading A Torch Against the Night, by Sabaa Tahir!

This is book 2 of her series, book 1 being An Ember in the Ashes. If you want to see my review for that, click here!

*I’m so sorry I haven’t posted in 10 days... the internet has been crazy, and so has my homework. I am almost done with a tag though! It’ll probably be posted tomorrow :)

Elias and Laia are running for their lives. After the events of the Fourth Trial, Martial soldiers hunt the two fugitives as they flee the city of Serra and undertake a perilous journey through the heart of the Empire.

Laia is determined to break into Kauf—the Empire’s most secure and dangerous prison—to save her brother, who is the key to the Scholars’ survival. And Elias is determined to help Laia succeed, even if it means giving up his last chance at freedom.

But dark forces, human and otherworldly, work against Laia and Elias. The pair must fight every step of the way to outsmart their enemies: the bloodthirsty Emperor Marcus, the merciless Commandant, the sadistic Warden of Kauf, and, most heartbreaking of all, Helene—Elias’s former friend and the Empire’s newest Blood Shrike.

Bound to Marcus’s will, Helene faces a torturous mission of her own—one that might destroy her: find the traitor Elias Veturius and the Scholar slave who helped him escape…and kill them both.

As per usual for second books in a series, this will be a little more more difficult for me to review without spoilers, so apologies if any spoilers show up!

So A Torch Against the night was one of my most highly anticipated books for 2016, since the release of An Ember in the Ashes. I can easily say that it did not disappoint!

A Torch against the Night starts right where book 1 ends; Laia and Elias are in tunnels, running away from the Martials, the Commandant, the Blood Shrike... basically a whole list of people who want them dead or in jail. They are on their way to the Kauf, a huge prison in which Laia’s brother is locked up. He knows how to make weapons from Serric steel, a rare skill to have.

I ship Laia and Elias so much. The two of them are incredibly sweet and determined. They somewhat have a Will-Tessa relationship. Elias knows he might not last, and thus does not want to hurt Laia by getting too close to her. There is a love triangle-ish thing, but it’s ok!

Helene has become the Blood Shrike - she is the emperor, Marcus’s right hand, he has to do as he says, no matter the costs. And his bidding? To kill Elias. This breaks her, as he is her best friend, the one she loved. She knows this will ultimately break her.

This book is their journey through tunnels, the desert, forests and rain, to get Laia’s brother out of jail no matter the costs.

I absolutely love the setting this book is set in! Like I mentioned in my last review, it’s a mix of desert land and middle eastern mythology (Jinn’s, spirits etc..), and ancient rome. The combination makes for such interesting components to the story!

Now it’s really difficult not to gush about spoilers, so I’m just gonna go right into them! ! Highlight the bottom list to see what’s written!

  • KEENAN is the Nightbringer!? I knew I couldn’t ship him with Laia, he was too open and touchy-feely. That was just an amazing plot twist! I kinda just sat there like ‘oh no nope no what?’...
  • I’m glad they got Laia’s brother out of jail - their whole scheme to do so was impressive!
  • I almost cried when Elias died. I mean, the fact that he’s not totally dead was a relief - I’m kind of glad that he replaced the Soul Catcher in her job - he can still visit Laia and the others who are still alive, but only for short amounts of time. It was heartbreaking!
  • The murder and attack/rebellion of the scholars and Elias’s tribe was terrible.
  • And even worse was the killing of Helene’s family just to teach her a lesson, so she would work with Marcus. That was not okay.

Anyway that’s all I have (time to) say about A Torch against the Night! It was really great! :D

I’m giving it a 4.5/5 feathers!

Have you read A Torch Against the night? What did you think about it? Let me know! :D

Have a great day!

Eleanor & Park, by Rainbow Rowell

Hey all!
Yesterday I finished reading Eleanor and Park, by Rainbow Rowell!

(I also finished a re-read of Illuminae, and loved it again so much! Re-reading it a second time made it even better! If you want to see my original review, click here! I cannot wait for book 2!! )

"Eleanor... Red hair, wrong clothes. Standing behind him until he turns his head. Lying beside him until he wakes up. Making everyone else seem drabber and flatter and never good enough...Eleanor.

Park... He knows she'll love a song before he plays it for her. He laughs at her jokes before she ever gets to the punch line. There's a place on his chest, just below his throat, that makes her want to keep promises...Park.

Set over the course of one school year, this is the story of two star-crossed sixteen-year-olds—smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try.
 "

Oh my gosh I think I found my new favorite Rainbow Rowell book! This was amazing!

I went into reading Eleanor & Park knowing that a lot of people like it for a bunch of different reasons - I was told that it had an amazing ending, that the story was relatable, etc. I think that everyone who reads this will or has experienced it differently.

Eleanor & Park is about two highschool misfits who find comfort and love in each other. It is set in 1986, so there’s kind of retro vibe to it - full of mixtapes and music. Eleanor is a girl who has bright red hair and is heavier than most other girls at school. This makes her quite uncomfortable at times, and she is often bullied by people at her school. She has a unique, quirky personality that Park likes.

Park wasn’t popular or unpopular at school - as a kid he had earned some kind of immunity from being bullied, because he used to hang out with the popular kids. He’s a guy who constantly listens to music, reads comics, and wears band shirts. He and Eleanor meet on the bus on the way to school, and slowly start becoming friends.

Both Eleanor and Park (I just can’t say Park and Eleanor... it sounds too wierd o.o) have very different living situations. Park’s mom is a Korean hair stylist, and his dad is a nice guy I guess. They have a somewhat normal family life. However, Eleanor’s family is a different story. Her dad practically abandoned her and her mom, who got re-married to a complete jerk (that’s being nice... he’s awful!). She has five (half)-siblings, all who are slightly strange. Her step-dad beats her mom on a regular basis, and takes the family money to go drinking and gambling. Eleanor finds a kind of refuge in Park’s family after a while.

I really appreciate how Rainbow Rowell presented these kind of family problems. I’m super fortunate that there are no such problems in my family at all, but I still feel like she managed to make the situations as realistic as possible.

Oh my goodness I usually don’t like insta-love, but danggg these two were just too adorable to not like! They both depended on each other for a reason or another, and helped each other. Just too cute!

And the ending surprised me more than I thought it would! It’s hard to describe without any spoilers, but it was quite terrifying. And then it was really sad. Rainbow Rowell seems to have a knack for making beautiful stories and having them just... stop.

Anyway, I have to go already! But I’m giving this lovely contemporary a 4.5/5 feathers!

Have you read Eleanor and Park? What did you think? Let me know!
Have a great day!!

The Hundred Lies of Lizzie Lovett, by Chelsea Sedoti

Hey all!

I just finished reading an ARC of The Hundred Lies of Lizzie Lovett!

Many thanks to Sourcebooks publishing for sending me a copy via Netgalley! I really appreciate it! :) This does not influence my review in any way.

This will be published on January 3rd, 2017

"Hawthorn wasn't trying to insert herself into a missing person's investigation. Or maybe she was. But that's only because Lizzie Lovett's disappearance is the one fascinating mystery their sleepy town has ever had. Bad things don't happen to popular girls like Lizzie Lovett, and Hawthorn is convinced she'll turn up at any moment-which means the time for speculation is now.

So Hawthorn comes up with her own theory for Lizzie's disappearance. A theory way too absurd to take seriously...at first. The more Hawthorn talks, the more she believes. And what better way to collect evidence than to immerse herself in Lizzie's life? Like getting a job at the diner where Lizzie worked and hanging out with Lizzie's boyfriend. After all, it's not as if he killed her-or did he?

I saw that a lot of people were getting this book at BEA, and I was curious about it! A few days later I saw it on Netgalley and thought ‘why not try’? I was so excited when I got it!

This book is about Hawthorn, a 17-year-old girl who’s somewhat of a misfit - she doesn’t really have friends in school, believes in the supernatural, and doesn’t really see the point of homecoming. She’s often one of the invisible wallflowers that people didn’t tend to notice.

Until Lizzie Lovett disappeared overnight.

Hawthorn becomes obsessed with wanting to know what happened, and why it did. She goes through all kinds of scenarios, and eventually sticks to the one where Lizzie became a werewolf. Hawthorn meets Lizzie’s boyfriend, who everyone thinks may have killed her, and they become friends of sorts.

Suddenly, Hawthorn gets a wave of negative attention at school, and her parents starts worrying about her and her obsession.

I enjoyed this book! It is super easy to get into, and is one of those reads that once you start, you want to get to the end of. I found myself just sitting and reading it for hours on end and barely realizing it! Very compulsive to read, maybe because the writing style felt natural, and because the chapters were somewhat on the short side. It never felt like Sedoti tried using fancy words or complicated ideas in her book, which was so nice for a change! It was a nice, flowing read.

Hawthorn’s an interesting character. At first, I thought she might have been autistic - she’s not good with people, imaginative, good at specific things, confides in one person, etc. It never mentions that explicitly in the book, but it made sense to me. However, I never really kept that label on her, and just read the book as it was.

Hawthorn’s not my favorite character of all time, but she was nice to read about! Her intense curiosity lead her to some crazy situations that she always reacted well to - not positively, but well.

All of the supporting and secondary characters were carefully chosen, constructed and placed. Enzo, Lizzie’s boyfriend, made Hawthorn believe in herself more. Her brother was there for her when she needed, and Connor watched over her from a distance, like a guardian.

Lizzie herself was described as a popular cheerleader - one of those people that almost everyone likes, or wants to be. However, everyone in the book describes her differently. It’s almost as if she has 100 lives rather than 100 lies. ^^

One character I did not like, however, was Emily. I don’t know if that was how she was meant to be portrayed, but I found her incredibly annoying and rude. When reading about Emily and Hawthorn’s friendship, it almost seemed as if Emily let Hawthorn be her friend out of pity, and that she would rather be anywhere else than be talking with her. I mean she wasn’t always a bad friend, but it really bothered me when she thought she was better than Hawthorne.

Although it was a strangely-timed one, I did enjoy Hawthorn’s relationship with Enzo. I really liked them as friends. I never really shipped them (I always thought that she and Connor would be adorable ^-^), and am somewhat glad that they weren’t endgame, but I’m still sad about what happened between them in the end. It felt like Hawthorn finally found someone who understood her, and the fact that she lost that person in a way that is just cruel... well I didn’t like that much.

The end of the book is quite sad, and hit me more than I thought it would. It was nice how everything ended up being okay though. :)

I feel like the plot might have been lacking just a little bit of substance. For example, I’d love to know more about Hawthorn’s hobbies, or her friendship with Emily.

Overall, I’m giving this a 4/5 feathers! I enjoyed it!

Are you planning on reading The Hundred Lies of Lizzie Lovett? Let me know!

Have a great day and enjoy the rest of the week!

Bookish Talks ~7~ All the Random Bookish Things

Hey guys!

So I have a lot of bookish things I want to talk about but not many people to talk about them to.

SO it’s time for another Bookish Talk!

October Massive Book Haul
Oh my gosh guys September and October had so many amazing book releases... of course I had to order them!
But that means that during the month of October, I’m going to receive a lot, a lot of books.
I’m expecting the Gemina box to show up at the end of the month.
I won a Book Depository giveaway, and am now waiting for An Ember in the Ashes.
I’m a rep for Booknerd Boxes and, since there were problems with the mail company Caggie, the owner, was working with, I’m expecting a 3-in-1 box, with a total of 6 books.
Let the huge haul begin!
If I get books in the subscription box that I already have, I’ll try to organize a giveaway! :D

Name Thief...?
So the internet service here on campus is a bit strange - for certain website extensions (for example blogger), you need to search the site through google to be able to open the site. So I searched my blog...

And found that someone started a blog a few days ago with the exact same name, but a different url.

Just Another Bookish Blog is my pride and joy, and is something I’m really attached to. I put so much effort into making it unique and mine, that when I saw that someone else was using my name, and instead of making it black-on-white, made it white-on-black... well... I did not appreciate it.

When I started JABB I spent at least an hour browsing the interwebs just to make sure I wasn’t stealing anyone’s name on any platform.

I feel so bad but I contacted the owner and asked them to change names. It’s not even like they used “Just Another Book Blog” - that I would not have minded so much. But the name was exactly, exactly the same. It feels weird to receive an email from Just Another Bookish Blog and it not being mine...

I’m wondering if I did the right thing... Has this ever happened to you? What would you have done?

Crazy October TBR!
Ok so this ties in a lot with the books I’m expecting to receive.
My TBR for October is massive.
- Eleanor and Park
- Since You’ve Been Gone
- Poison Study
- The Alchemist (Not the one by Paulo Cohelo)
- The Shadowhunter’s Codex
- Immortal Rules
- Illuminae
- Gemina
- An Ember in the Ashes
- A Torch Against the Night

...
That’s 4440 pages in 31 days
(Well 30 days, I had a really rough day yesterday so wasn’t in the mood to read at all.)

So thats about 148 pages per day o.o

Instagram Challenge
You know those monthly challenges all over instagram? Well the amazing Summer @library_looter and I made one! Look out for #BookishLootOber! It’s been so much fun so far to see everyone’s entries! :D Totally worth it!
And make sure to follow Summer’s account!

Suitcase Issues...
You know, I’m thinking about my October haul, and am realizing... how in the world will I bring all those books back home with me?
I might read as many as I can before leaving and just keep my absolute favorites ^^

Australia Haul, July-September
So I came here with 6 books, right?

I added 16 to that ^-^”

It’s not my fault there’s so many second-hand bookstores here, charity book sales, and a cheap book market on campus every single Thursday!

It’s so hard to resist ;-;

But here they are anyway! I’ve read 6 of them already :)
- Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
- The Darkest Part of the Forest
- Teardrop
