Library of Souls, by Ransom Riggs

Library of Souls, by Ransom Riggs

Oooooh my gosh just give me a minute to process my thoughts!

*minute*

Okay let’s write this review!

Hey all!
I just finished reading Library of Souls, the last book of the Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children Trilogy! :D

Goodreads Summary
"The adventures that began with Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and continued with Hollow City comes to a thrilling conclusion with Library of Souls.
As the story opens, sixteen-year-old Jacob discovers a powerful new ability, and soon he’s diving through history to rescue his peculiar companions from a heavily guarded fortress. Accompanying Jacob on his journey are Emma Bloom, a girl with fire at her fingertips, and Addison MacHenry, a dog with a nose for sniffing out lost children.
They’ll travel from modern-day London to the labyrinthine alleys of Devil’s Acre, the most wretched slum in all of Victorian England. It’s a place where the fate of peculiar children everywhere will be decided once and for all.
Like its predecessors, Library of Souls blends thrilling fantasy with never-before-published vintage photography.

Wow the feels! I’m so happy with the way this series ended!!
Okay now for a more structured review:
At first, I had a hard time settling into the story, and remembering everything from the previous book - this one starts right were the second book, Hollow City, ended. But once I got into it, it was so hard to put down!!

(I’m not going to give away too much about the story, just because a lot of people still have to read the first two books, so I’ll make this as spoiler-free as possible. BUT I will have the usual spoiler section, so if you haven’t read this yet, I suggest you stay away from that ;) )

One thing I love about this series is Riggs’s use of old photography, and how he manages to weave old photos into his books. I mean look at the cover! Wouldn’t you want to know the story behind such a picture? There’s dozens of them like that in the book. On their own, they’re each begging to have a story be told about them. Now, they are all linked together in a beautiful story.

This book was a rollercoaster of feels. Technically, this series is “YA Fantasy-Thriller”. The first two books weren’t especially ‘thriller-esque’. However, Library of Souls did have quite a few chilling parts. It made it incredibly gripping and made me curious and scared for the characters. This one was definitely my favorite out of the three books :)

((GUYS I JUST ORDERED A SIGNED COPY OF MAGNUS CHASE I CAN’T WAIT TO GET IT!!! ))

Ahem, where was I...
Oh yeah!
The feels: It went through everything - laughing, fear, sadness, worry, happiness... you name it! The end was both awful and amazing!

The climax was FANTASTIC and everything a climax should be!

As usual with this series, I loved the diversity of the characters, as well as all of their peculiar powers and abilities! Miss Peregrine is an amazing motherly figure. Jacob has the COOLEST power development!

Spoiler time!
- The ending when Jacob gets sent to the Asylum was awful and so sad. But then when the group figures out they can live in present day, it made me so happy! :D
- THE CLIMAX WAS FREAKING FANTASTIC!!! *-* The whole Library of Souls scene was just amazing and awesome and I loved it.
- Those lab experiments were creepy
- those kidnapped children were creepy
- some of the areas were creepy
- much creepy
- (sorry I’m kinda hyper right now I finished my exams and just read an awesome book, don’t judge!)
- At the beginning I thought Sharon was like Poseidon - a sea-fareing man, on a boat, with a son called Percy...
- Lord of the Rings references always make my day!
End of spoiler time :)

Overall, this was an absolutely amazing ending to a great series! Now if you haven’t read the books yet, go ahead and do so! :D

I’m giving this book a beautiful 5/5 feathers

What would your peculiar ability be? Let me know! :D

  1. Jacob has even more powers? *gasps* I'm super pumped to read this!!! I am patiently waiting for my copy to arrive, but it's taking so long D:
I have no idea what peculiar power I'd like to have. Are there any limits? Can I control all four elements, AND have super speed and strength? Or turn invisible at the same time? So many choices!
I'm looking forward to reading this book, especially since this is the scariest of the 3! Though I'm a little scared of the ending, since you said it's both awful and amazing... *swallows hard*
    Great review as always! :)

    1. Well yeah they kinda evolve and it’s so great! :D Looking forward to seeing what you think! C:

UUh I guess not? But I think having every ability at once might be a bit overly-peculiar ^-^

It’s not necessarily scary scary, it just has a creepier feel to it! And you’ll see what I mean with the ending :)

      Thanks so much!
